Playgrounds get winning upgrade with new goal ends
When it comes to encouraging sports, multi-use games areas (MUGAs) are a fantastic way to provide a designated area for ball games like football, netball and hockey, however, sometimes space and budgets mean that schools are getting creative when it comes to getting the most play value from their outside space. Installing a ball wall with a goal end onto a playground means that the play space remains open and flexible enough to be used in all the various ways required throughout the school year, whether it is hosting sports day challenges, or the school fete. Goal ends are a great example of how a modest investment can make a big impact, as pupils can play sport at every break-time if they want to.
Goal ends provide a great chance to practice ball skills at play time
We’ve installed new goal ends at schools such as Woodford Primary School in Plymouth, Beaford Primary in Devon and St John the Baptist Primary School in West London and all have noticed tangible benefits for their pupils. Pupil-led play has increased, with children inventing their own challenges such as shooting a 100 hoops, or setting up a spontaneous five-a-side session.
Although each individual goal end design was slightly different, all three schools opted for premium specifications and the goal ends were manufactured using high quality hot-dipped galvanised steel, with a tough polyester coated finish in the various school colours.
Again the difference is not only in the robust finish, but in the details – the goal ends deliver maximum play value with extra features such as circular target practice panels and cricket wickets to appeal to as many budding champs as possible.
Leon Gauci , School Business Manager at St John's Primary School is pleased with the increased activity seen during play times:
“We have used Proper Playgrounds previously for our bespoke recycled plastic play equipment and we know that buying high quality, durable play equipment means the school only needs to buy it once. The new goal ends offer fantastic play value and the children love practising their goal-scoring skills at break times – every school should install them!”
To install a similar goal end to the one in the main photo would cost approximately £8,000 ex VAT.
