Little improvements, lasting impact in Lezant Parish play area, Cornwall

The brief

Following the annual maintenance inspection of Trekenner Play Park in the Cornish Parish of Lezant, the deteriorating old wooden play tower was decommissioned and the Parish Council sought a replacement centre piece for the playground.

The plan

As the budget was tight, the Council opted for a multi-user play tower as it was packed with play features designed to appeal to a wide age range of children – a slide, fireman’s pole, climbing wall, rope traverse and scramble nets, offered dynamic challenges for older children plus a shop counter and giant abacus beads were included to appeal to the younger ones. Having previously purchased recycled plastic outdoor furniture from Proper Playgrounds, councillors were aware of the benefits of using this robust material and once again opted to use recycled plastic, as unlike wood alternatives, the recycled plastic posts would not get slimy during the winter months and most importantly, the tower would not rot.

Trekenner village makes maximum use of this idylic playing field – primary school pupils use the play equipment during the day and after school the park is opened up for everyone, so the new play tower has been very popular from day one!

Sam Inman, Clerk to Lezant Parish Council said the project went extremely well from start to finish:
“Proper Playgrounds helped us choose the play equipment which provided the best value for our budget. The team was professional, knowledgeable and provided helpful advice both before and during installation. We have used this company before and would have no hesitation to use Proper Playgrounds again.”

A similar multi-user climbing frame to the one installed in Trekenner playing field would cost approx: £12,000 ex VAT.
